Besides Virada Digital, Rio de Janeiro is also hosting the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, a.k.a., Rio+20 in June. The event will receive representatives from pacified communities such as Cidade de Deus, Pavão-Pavãozinho, Cantagalo, Chapéu Mangueira,Babilônia, Vidigal and Rocinha and Complexo do Alemão which will develop projects to be presented on June 13 and 22 on sustainability.
The events will be organized by the communities themselves and Rio’s government recommends its attendance by the Heads of State and their parties, who will be participating at Rio+20. At Pavão-Pavãozinho and Cantagalo, for instance, a solidarity fair will be held and a community sightseeing will be offered. The intent is to use the visit to advertise the work of local craftsmen.
At Complexo do Alemão the idea is to promote activities around the cable cars areas. Cidade de Deus will host the second edition of its Open Games and Social and Environmental Educational Journey. Rocinha will deliver a paper on sustainability in na event in the community’s ecological park. Vidigal will host a Cultural Day with exhibitions, theather plays, dance, capoeira and several sports. Chapéu Mangueira e Babilônia, will throw a June Celebration with cultural performances in several venues within the community.
